Steve Accardi, the winner of last year's Writing Centers Award to the outstanding writer in the MAW, has secured an adjunct position in writing for spring semester at Pima Community College in Tucson. He also published an article in Writing Lab Newsletter last month: "Discursive Disclosure: Changing Tutoring Sessions to Curb Cultural Assimilation" (vol. 30, n. 4, December 2005). Jim Crowley's essay, "The Name On The Door," has been accepted for publication. SLAB: The Sound and Literary Art Book has taken it for its inaugural issue coming out this Spring. Formerly known as Ginger Hill, the journal operates from Slippery Rock University. Jim started the essay in Professor Anton's magazine writing class. Starr Nordgren has accepted a position at Literacy Chicago, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the literacy skills of Chicago-area adults and families through various classes and one-on-one tutoring. Her official title is Education Supportive Services Manager: she will be coordinating the intake/assessment of new clients, teaching some of the classes, and managing a small staff. Starr will also continue to teach night classes at Truman College and other schools. This summer, Mandy Schomas published her novel, What to Do When You’re Twenty-Two. Nadyja Von Ebers has started a blog called tin can phones, a site on which she shares her creative work, reflections on the creative process, and musings on the experience of being an amateur writer, scholar, and human being. Katie Wozniak will be presenting at a conference at Truman College titled "International Women's Issues and Globalization: Education's Responsibility in Ensuring Women's Rights and Progress" on February 7. She will be presenting her paper "Necessity for Counterargument in International Women's Studies".
