Wrights of Spring
Production Procedure Manual
The purpose of this manual is to introduce and familiarize the Playwright/Producer, Director, and Stage Manager of a Wrights of Spring production to the operations of The Theatre School in order to mount the production in a successful manner.

If you come across any discrepancies or additional information that should be incorporated in the manual during the Wrights of Spring process, please bring it to the attention of  Dean Corrin (ext. 7932) as soon as possible.
 
 

ELIGIBILITY

Playwrights must be students in good standing at the Theatre School and currently enrolled in Playwriting, Playwright's Seminar, or New Play Workshop.  First year playwriting majors will not have the opportunity to present their work, but are encouraged to participate as stage managers, assistant directors, etc.

Playwrights presenting their first Wrights of Spring production may apply for a table reading or an unsupported staged reading up to 30 minutes long.

Playwrights who have presented in previous years may apply for any level of production.

Playwrights interested in mounting a production must submit an application to the Wrights of Spring executive producer, Dean Corrin.
 
 

LEVELS OF PRODUCTION
All productions are script-in-hand.

Supported Staged Reading - may request rehearsal props, costumes from, and a workshop lighting pack.  Generally scheduled for two performances.
Unsupported Staged Reading - may request rehearsal props only.  Generally scheduled for two performances.
Table or Music Stand Reading - receives no support.  Usually scheduled for a single performance.

*fully staged reading of a new play.
*you must apply for a supported staged reading no later than
 March 16, 1998.
*you are strongly encouraged to get a Stage Manager to help with the administrative  needs of your production.
*you must specifically reserve a room for your rehearsals/performances in the    Production Coordinator’s office, 101, no later than May 15, 1998 or you    are not guaranteed a room.
*you may check out a Prop Locker and lock from the Production Coordinator’s    Office, 101, to store items for your production.
 -this is dependent on the availability of lockers and whether or not there    are still Workshops, Intros, or MFA 1 Short Plays in rehearsal or     performance when you initially come in for your locker.
 -all items must be cleared from your locker on the final night of     your performance.
 -your lock must be checked into the Production Coordinator’s     office on the following business day.
*you may use the Workshop Light Packs. However, you must apply for this    privilege when you turn in your proposal.
*you may check out costumes from Costume Storage up until May 22, 1998.
-Please refer to the Intro Manual for specific information on the check out procedure.
*you may check out props from The Prop Shop up until May 22, 1998.
-Please refer to the Intro Manual for specific information on the check out procedure.
 -You will be allowed to check out props directly addressed in the text of the   show. However, you will have very limited access set dressing.
*be prepared to provide some of your costumes/props from personal stock.

II. Unsupported Staged Reading
*staged reading without the support of the Lighting Assistant or Costume Storage.
*you must apply for a unsupported staged reading no later than
 April 6, 1998.
*you are encouraged to get a Stage Manager to help with the administrative    needs of your production.
*you must specifically reserve a room for your rehearsals/performances in the    Production Coordinator’s office, 101, no later than May 15, 1998 or you    are not guaranteed a room.
*you may check out a Prop Locker and lock from the Production Coordinator’s    Office, 101, to store items for your production.
 -this is dependent on the availability of lockers and whether or not there    are still Workshops, Intros, or MFA 1 Short Plays in rehearsal or     performance when you initially come in for your locker.

III. Table Reading
*unstaged table reading of a new work

*you must specifically reserve a room for your rehearsals/performances in the    Production Coordinator’s office, 101, no later than May 15, 1998 or you    are not guaranteed a room.
*you will not have access to props or costumes, etc. from The Theatre School.
