Introduction

Founded during the DePaul Centennial (1998-1999), the LPCRI is a joint effort of Lincoln Park community organizations and DePaul University to collect documents and artifacts on the history of the Lincoln Park community. The Lincoln Park Neighborhood Collection in the DePaul University Library preserves the history of the Lincoln Park community. In partnership with community organizations, the intention is to strengthen the archive by adding records of neighborhood groups and their members.

In order to encourage contributions to the archives, the LPCRI also develops and supports research, publications, and exhibits on Lincoln Park, especially through an annual program of small grants.

Spring and Fall programs celebrate and examine the diverse cultural and political issues of the community, which foster continued interest in the shared history of the community and the university.

For more information on the Lincoln Park Community Research Initiative, email Fran Casey fcasey@depaul.edu in Community Affairs at DePaul or call her at (312) 362-8100.

History on the Internet

The DePaul University Library received a grant form the State of Illinois Educate and Automate program for computer equipment to digitize the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Collection. The materials are accessible on the Internet through the DePaul University Libraries home page at http://mimsy.itd.depaul.edu/lpncsearch/.

Also within the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Collection is the Wanda Harold Architectural Photographs. This collection of 200 historical buildings in Chicago's Lincoln Park Community include landmark domestic residences, commercial sites, and churches constructed in a variety of historical styles. This research project, which links social ecology with urban architectural design, was funded with a grant from the Lincoln Park Community Research Initiative.
