National Endowment for the HumanitiesSUMMER STIPEND PROGRAMThe National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) offers a yearly competition for summer stipends of $4,000 to conduct research in humanities disciplines. Each college and university in the
By NEH definition, the humanities include, but are not limited to, the study of history, philosophy, languages, linguistics, literature, archaeology, jurisprudence, the history, theory and criticism of the arts, ethics, comparative religion, and those aspects of the social sciences that employ historical or philosophical approaches. The University Research Council (URC) is responsible for reviewing the proposals and nominating the two to be sent to NEH. Because of the very limited time available to prepare these applications when the new academic year begins, we are asking interested applicants to work on these proposals over the summer and submit a draft application to the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research by August 15. A complete proposal should be submitted to the Council by September 6. The University Research Council will meet in early September to review the draft applications. All applicants will be notified immediately about the URC decision, so the two nominees will have time to request letters from their selected referees and to prepare the final version of the application. The Office of Sponsored Programs and Research (OSPR) has instructions and forms available at both campuses. Please call x2-6590 for more information about this program and for assistance in developing a draft proposal. |
