Five-year B.A./M.A. Program
The five-year B.A./M.A. program in sociology is designed to serve those Sociology majors who wish to continue their education beyond the undergraduate level. Participation in the program provides an opportunity for students to further their academic plans and work closely with faculty who share similar ideas and interests. Given the nature of the program, students are also able to explore many different areas of study within sociology.
To qualify for the five-year B.A./M.A. program in sociology, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Sociology Major
-
Complete six department courses before the start of senior year.
-
Have an overall grade-point average of 2.75 and a 3.25 GPA in a minimum of six sociology courses already taken at the time of application.
-
Agree to pursue your M.A. during your fifth year.
During the senior year a student may take up to three graduate level courses which will count for both undergraduate and graduate credit requirements. An additional nine graduate courses are required to complete the M.A. degree.
The main benefits of the program are that it reduces the time required to complete the Master's Degree Program and reduces the cost of tuition.
To apply
- Complete the application form.
- Compose an essay of two to three pages describing why you are interested in sociology and what your plans are following the completion of the master’s degree.
