The Department of Physics at DePaul University
provides programs in physics that serve a broad spectrum of
student needs. Our undergraduate
major offers a curriculum designed to provide the depth
and breadth required for graduate study in physics, related
and interdisciplinary areas, or for applied programs such
as engineering, electronics, and optics.
A major factor in our success in preparing students for advanced
degrees and good careers is the high level of cooperation and interaction
that we maintain between faculty and students. Our classes are small,
often laboratory orientated, therefore promote serious learning
in a friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to participate
in research with faculty and are frequently co-authors of articles
in physics journals.
Our graduate program
offers a terminal masters degree that is designed for industrial
scientists or physics teachers interested in obtaining an
advanced degree and for students preparing for doctoral work
in physics or a related field.
Our full-time faculty of seven have research interests and
expertise in the following areas: laser physics, non-linear
optics, fiber optics, Fourier optics, computational physics,
dynamical systems, nuclear physics, condensed matter physics,
magnetism, and the teaching of physics. Research in the department
is currently supported by external funding from the National
Science Foundation and the Research Corporation.
The department is currently home to the Space
Science Center for Education and Outreach, which is funded
by the Office
of Space Science at NASA.
