Application and Admissions
The deadline
for all applications to the graduate program is December 15, 2008, for
admission in Fall 2009. However, to ensure that applications receive the
fullest attention, all applicants are encouraged to submit their complete
applications as early as possible. In
particular, international applicants are strongly encouraged to submit
complete applications by November 1, 2008 to allow for University
processing time. Admissions are for the Fall quarter 2009 only.
All applications are processed through the Graduate Admissions Office of
the College
of Liberal Arts and
Sciences. Inquiries concerning the application process should be
directed to the Graduate Admissions Office at (773) 325-7315, or toll
free 1-800-4DEPAUL (outside Illinois).

Applications should be made directly on-line by clicking on the Application
On-line link at the top right of this screen.
All applications for the M.A. and Ph.D. programs must include the
following:
- A completed
On-line University Graduate Application including $40 application fee.
- Official
transcripts of all previous academic work.
- Graduate
Records Examination general aptitude (analytical writing, verbal and
quantitative) scores. DePaul’s institution code is 1165.
- Two letters of
recommendation from teachers familiar with the applicant's work
(Recommenders should submit their letters directly to the Graduate
Admissions Office; no accompanying form is required).
- A personal
statement indicating why the applicant desires to pursue graduate work
in this program, including areas of proposed research.
- A writing
sample (e.g., a term paper, seminar paper, senior thesis, or M.A.
thesis or portion thereof).
- Students
educated in a country where the native language is not officially recognized
as English must submit proof of English proficiency by submitting a
TOEFL or IELTS score. The
minimum required TOEFL is 96 (no section score less than 22) on the
internet version; 243 (computer-based test); 590 (paper-based
test). The minimum required
IELTS score is 7.5.

To
be considered for admission in the following academic year all materials
must be received by December 15, 2008.

N.B. If you wish to be considered
for a Teaching Fellowship with tuition waivers and stipend, you must apply
to the Ph.D. program (even if you do not yet have a M.A.). There is no
funding available for the non-continuing Master's program.

Offers of admission and funding are generally made in late February or
early March. If you have not heard concerning your application by the
