INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH STUDY

CHICAGO SEXUAL IDENTITY SURVEY

Welcome to the Chicago Sexual Identity Survey. We are asking you to be in a research study because we are interested in learning more about how people perceive identity and social situations. We would like to know how people with concealable identities communicate those identities to others. More specifically, we are interested in how gay men communicate their sexual identity and orientation to others. We are also interested in how gay men perceive social situations and the attributions made about others following these situations. This study will take no more than one hour of your time to complete. If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to read a series of short paragraphs and answer questions about what you have read, as well as give your opinion about various signifiers of sexual identity. Please note that there are many different instructions throughout the survey. Read the survey carefully. If you do not want to be in this study, you can choose not to participate.

There are no risks associated with this study beyond what one might expect to experience in daily life when considering issues of sexual identity and interacting in ambiguous social situations. Although there are no direct benefits to you, your participation will help us better understand issues related to gay identity.

There are no negative consequences if you decide not to participate or change your mind later. Please know that all information that you provide in this study will be kept strictly confidential.
