During the fall trimester of the 1996/97 school year at DePaul University,
a group of over 30 women gathered to learn about an organization
named Sigma Lambda Gamma. These women felt the need for an organization that
would better serve the needs and wants of Latina women at DePaul
University.
In February of 1997, Sigma Lambda Gamma at DePaul University received colony status. From the original group of over 30, 18 women remained to become the DePaul chapter Founders. These women were inducted into Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority in March of 1997. On June 5, 1997, these 18 women crossed to mark the closure of their process. On September 13, 1997, the DePaul colony received chapter status, and became Sigma Lambda Gamma, Gamma Alpha Chapter. Gamma Alpha's first Honorary Member, Georgianna Torres, was inducted and initiated into Sigma Lambda Gamma in October of 1997. On April 5, 1998, the First Line, Las Pleiades, was initiated into the chapter. On June 6, 1999, Second Line, La Paciencia, was initiated. On May 4, 2000, Third Line, Las Complicadas, was initiated. On June 30, 2001, Fourth Line, Inolvidables, was initiated. On May 20, 2002, Fifth Line, E.S.S.E.N.C.E., was initiated.
