- An interdisciplinary study of a particular
person, place, thing, or event that has had a profound effect

DePaul first year students in the College of
Commerce, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School
of Education, and the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications,
and Information Services (CTI) will take a Focal Point Seminar
during their second or third quarters at the university and
after the successful completion of English 103.
ISP 101 Focal Point Seminar
Focal Point Seminars investigate a significant person, place,
text, idea or event through multiple methodological or disciplinary
perspectives, learning how educated persons strive to understand
topics in increasingly deeper and less superficial ways. Courses
stress "seminar behavior" -- active learning, through critical
questioning, speaking, listening, and discussing; reading
and writing extensively about primary sources and original
works. The various topics are framed from the faculty member's
experience and intellectual perspective. Courses are available
to first-year students only.
