Helpful Hints for Newly Admitted MAE and MAW Students

As you register for your first or second quarter in your program, it is important that you be introduced to, become familiar with and continue to use the following strategies. They will assist you in progressing toward degree completion in a timely manner.

• Refer to the program websites and Blackboard sites often! They are your best reference in determining the required core courses for each program and which degree requirements the other courses fulfill.

• We inform students of important dates, deadlines, etc. through email, Blackboard and Ex Libris. Be sure to check these sites often so that you do not miss those deadlines.

• To discover the course offerings for each quarter, check Ex Libris. To discover the requirements that each course fulfills, click on the course title listed in Ex Libris.

• For information regarding degree conferral and graduation, please consult the LA&S Graduate Student website.

MAE Students

• To discover the literary period requirement that each course fulfills, go to the MAE website, click on Course Offerings and then on Graduate English Courses.

• If after consulting the above sources you still have questions about registering for classes, please contact Dr. Paula McQuade, MAE Program Director, at pmcquade@depaul.edu.

MAW and MAWP Students

• English 471 may not be used for degree credit in the MAW.

• All MAW students must pass the Qualifying Exam after completing their second course in the program and before they register for a 6th Course. If you register for a 6th course without having passed the Qualifying Exam, you will be retroactively withdrawn from the course and prevented from registering in any other MAW courses until you have passed the exam.

• If after consulting the above sources you still have questions about registering for classes, please contact either Dr. Craig Sirles, csirles@depaul.edu, or Jan Flood, jflood@depaul.edu.
