Honors and Accomplishments

Congratulations to all Masters Students Graduating with Honors

MA Accomplishments

MAW Cheryl Hagedorn presented "A Truly Webified Academic Paper" at the Illinois Philological Association in spring. "The Color of Cowboys" will be published in Threshold.

Sarah Kaufmann, Liz Rog, Matt Lockwitz, Katie Shield, Katie Johnson, Natalie Rollo, and Ceci O'Keefe, along with the help of Anne Bartlett, have organized the English Graduate Student Association for students in the MA in English and the MA in Writing. The EGSA, formally approved as a school organization by Student Government in April, was created in order to give Graduate students a voice in the program and the University. Issues addressed range from class sizes to career counseling to course offereings. If you have any questions, concerns, ideas, etc. please let us know by emailing us at egsa_depaul@yahoo.com.

Kim Pulchalski, Jena Hencin, and Professor Jonathan Gross attended the Byron Conference in Messolonghi, Greece just this May. Check out Pictures!

Kim will also be presenting at the Georgia Conference on Information Literacy in the fall at Georgia Southern University. A blurb of her presentation can be found at the Conference Website. Kim will present in the afternoon.

Ryan Van Meter has an essay forthcoming in the fall issue of River Teeth

Thresholds, the department's literary magazine, accepted three pieces from MAW Meghan Boyer, including: " Dead People's Towels," "What I Learned From Karl," and "A Look Into My Future."

Pat McVary presented a paper at the 9th Annual Conference of the Illinois Philological Association in April. The paper was entitled, " 'To be delivered from this tyranny...': Reversal of Power in Congreve's _The Way of the World_" Pat also became a member of the English Honor Society - Sigma Tau Delta.

MAW alum, Alexis Maislen '04, received acceptance into the Brown University Writers' Symposium for this summer. She used a personal essay written while at DePaul as her writing sample.

MAE Helen Long will be entering a Master's in Library & Information Science program at Dominican University in the fall. She plans on becoming an academic librarian.

The College has re-established Sigma Tau Delta, under the supervision of James Murphy. The first cohort of students - altogether 39 undergraduates and graduate students -- were admitted to the society on Thursday, May 19.

FALL MAE COMPREHENSIVE EXAM will be offered on Saturday, September 10, 2005. Dr. Bartlett will lead an orientation for students who plan to take the exam in September on Saturday, June 4th at 1pm in McGaw (room TBD). Students who plan to take the exam in September should attend this meeting and should also indicate their intent to take the exam to by e-mailing Jan Flood asap and sending to her their most current contact information. more info on the exam
