Letter from the Dean

Welcome to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Web page. We hope that the information provided through the several menus and linked pages will help you better understand our various undergraduate and graduate academic programs and support services. The fact that you have made a "virtual" connection to this institution and its website suggests that you have an interest in knowing more about who we are and what we can offer you. The website offers you multiple ways in which you can familiarize yourself with our programs and the advantages of a DePaul Liberal Arts and Sciences education. If you wish to know even more about us, please feel free to use more traditional modes of communication. Give us a call or visit us here in Chicago, on our main Lincoln Park campus, as well as this cyberspace location.

Liberal Arts and Sciences, the oldest and largest college at DePaul, with 431 full-time faculty in 33 undergraduate and 21 graduate programs offers students a variety of choices and opportunities to advance their education. Most of our programs are offered on the Lincoln Park campus in one of Chicago's finest and most exciting neighborhoods, where we have created a vibrant community of learners devoted to the life of the mind and to the Vincentian mission of service to the community. Some of our programs are also are offered at DePaul's Loop Campus and at select suburban locations. Courses are offered in the day, in the evening, and on weekends. Our graduate programs in particular are designed and scheduled to serve the needs of working students who must pursue their study on a part-time basis.

The college is committed to providing all of its students with an education that balances in-depth study with a breadth of experience in various disciplines that form the core of human knowledge. All our degree granting programs seek to enhance student knowledge and critical thinking skills, to raise questions of value and meaning, and to develop those habits of the heart and mind intrinsic to life-long and independent learning.

Above all else, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has succeeded because it has attracted good people to it; faculty, staff and students who share its values, vision and dedication to learning. Although most of our faculty members are active scholars, many with national and international reputation, they all are involved in teaching, and they all view teaching and the quality of our academic programs as their first commitment.

I again thank you for your electronic visit to our college and wish you the very best.

Sincerely,

Charles S. Suchar, Ph.D.
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
