DePaul University's department of physics seeks candidates for a tenured-track, assistant professor position to begin September 2008.
The successful candidate should be enthusiastic about teaching, as well as capable of establishing on-campus research programs that will involve both undergraduate and beginning-level graduate students. The department offers an undergraduate degree in physics, a master’s degree in physics, and a wide range of undergraduate courses for non-science majors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and developing courses in all three of these areas, and must be willing and able to teach courses in appropriate interdisciplinary programs, such as the university’s first-year program. Current faculty research areas include material science, complex fluids, nonlinear optics, nonlinear dynamics, nuclear physics, astronomy, and astrophysics. Startup funds appropriate for establishing a research program at a teaching-oriented university are available. A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required.
Candidates should submit a teaching statement that describes their teaching experiences and interests (including courses for non-scientists, physics majors, and beginning-level graduate students, and a discussion of how their teaching will contribute to the educational mission of the department and university), a proposed research plan (including a description of how undergraduates will be involved in the research program), a curriculum vitae, an estimated startup budget, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation sent to:
