Week One: Email me at dmurphy@depaul.edu your answer to the following questions:
What do you want to learn about the Internet during our time together? How do you use the Internet?
Please nclude in your name in your response. No question is silly or inappropriate. I will use this information to customize our class time: it will be held confidential.
Begin reading our book, Chapters 1 - 5.

Week Two: Email me your answers to the following:
How do you protect your computer from viruses?
Give me your opinion about Phishing. Send me your favorite emoticon.
Should web sites be required to provide notice before they collect information from visitors? If so, what kinds of notice?
Should limits be imposed on what can be collected and how long it can be kept?
Should data collected from you online and data they obtain about you off-line, from the Census, for example, be merged? Why or why not? What should be the notification requirements?
Should you have the right to opt-out or opt-in before web sites channel ad networks or cookies to your machine? Why or why not?
What kind of sharing should be allowed to take place with a web site's business partners?
What access should consumers have to their information?
Read Chapters 11, 12 and 13

Week Three: Email me your answers to the following:
How do you search for information online?
Read Chapters 6,7 and 8.

Those of you who registered for S5, please begin working on the following 3 assignments, using the tutorials below or other resources as needed. These are due at the end of the quarter:

1) Open Microsoft Word in Office 2007. Create a new document. Include the requirements noted below, save the file and send it to me as an attachment.

Title the document: My Ability to Create a Document,. Center the Title. Add your name and ID#.
Fill 1 and ½ pages with random text. Either cut and paste in random words or type then out.
Text should be double-spaced. Make at least five paragraphs.
Add bold-faced, italicized centered headings for each paragraph
Margins should be set at 1 inch from top, bottom, and sides.
Include the following features in your text:
- Use three different type sizes
- Use two different fonts
- Add a footer including page number and document title
- Add one footnote. The footnote can be completely made-up Use any format for the citation; the purpose of including footnotes is to be sure that you know how to insert footnotes in a document.
- Save this document adn send it to me as an attachment.

2) Open Microsoft Excel in Office 2007. Start a new worksheet. Include the requirements below, save the file and send it to me as an attachment.

Add a title. Add your name and ID#.
Build a table with data and a graph that presents data from the table graphically.
In the table and graph, present information about last week’s weather showing the temperatures each day to be able make a conclusion about the information.
Remember to include:
1. The topic you are presenting (Temps for the week).
2. Source of the data. (Where you got this information – any online source is fine)
3. Data table you have constructed (from the days and temps)
4. Graph you have constructed based on that data. (from the data table)
5. Statement based on the data and graph. (can you conclude anything, ie It is hot in July)
Be sure to:
- Label each axis.
- Label the graph.
- Label the table.
- Write a caption for the graph that comments on the trends shown in the graph. Save the file and email it to me as an attachment.

3) Open Microsoft Powerpoint in Office 2007. Start a new file. Include the following:
Title the document. Add your name and ID# and an image on the first slide. Create nine more slides
Add graphics and random text to each slide. Choose a background other than white. Save these into one file and email it to me as an attachment.

Week Four:  
- Find example of ‘community’ on the web, email me the URL and tell why you think it represents an example of community. 
- Visit http://www.worldofends.com/  and tell me what you think of this thesis in at least three paragraphs.
- Think of a topic for your website.

Week Five and Six:
-
Find a site you think is well designed and worth clicking on and send me  its URL and  tell me in a paragraph: WhatMakes It Great. 
- Go to http://snl.depaul.edu and evaluate it in a paragraph using the design criteria we discussed in class..
- Read Chapter 10.

Week Seven:
Read chapters 9, 19, and 21.
Send me an email with your name and your website address.

Week Eight: None

Week Nine:

Final Course Exercise will be emailed to you. It is due in one week.
