About the Institute

The Chaddick Institute, located at DePaul University in Chicago, advances the principles of effective land use, transportation, and community planning.  Founded in 1993, the institute offers planners, attorneys, developers, and entrepreneurs a forum to share expertise on difficult land-use issues through workshops, conferences, and policy studies.

In recent years, the Institute has offered educational events in cooperation with the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association, Amtrak Reform Council, Lambda Alpha International, Illinois Rail, Scenic Illinois, Women in Planning and Development, and other organizations. It provides student scholarships and offers a three-course Certificate in Metropolitan Planning in cooperation with the Public Services Graduate Program.

More than eighty units of government have sent representatives to its technical workshops over the past several years.   In 2002, the Institute received an award from the Illinois Chapter of the American Planning Association for its workshop series. It offers a diverse array of publications on planning and transportation topics and is regularly quoted by national news organizations.

Financial support for the Institution is provided by the Harry F. and Elaine M. Chaddick Foundation.
