About the Program

    The debate program consists of both intercollegiate debate and a non-competitive public debate program within the Communication department. The intercollegiate debate team is directed by Niko Poulakos, a graduate of the University of Iowa and a former competitive NDT debater.  The debate team travels to 6 - 8 regional and national CEDA/NDT tournaments a year. The program has experienced nationally competitive success in its ten year history. Regional competition includes Northern Illinois University, Augustana College, Northwestern University and Wheaton College to name but a few. The team also travels nationally to regional tournaments and national championship competitions.  DePaul University offers a number of highly competitive debate scholarships that can include tuition, fees, and housing.     The non-competitive public debate program is directed by Dr. Willard and consists of community wide forums held in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago.  Students interested in civic debate, community involvement, and local politics are encouraged to become involved in this program.  There are a few scholarships available for students interested in the public debate program.  For more information contact Dr. Willard at 773-325-2965 or via e-mail.
